What's Happening in Key West This July 2026

Your complete local guide to festivals, fireworks, fishing tournaments, live music, and unforgettable island experiences this July.
June 26, 2026

July Might Be One of the Best Months to Visit Key West

Most people think winter is the only time to experience Key West.

Locals know better.

July has its own personality. The crowds are lighter, sunsets are incredible, the water is at its warmest, and the calendar is packed with some of the island's biggest traditions.

From eating Key lime pie as fast as humanly possible to watching fireworks over the Atlantic, cheering on world class anglers, celebrating Ernest Hemingway, or diving for lobster during Mini Season, there is never a shortage of things happening around the island.

Whether you're visiting for a long weekend or you're lucky enough to call Key West home, here's your complete guide to July.

🍋‍🟩 July 1 through 5

Key Lime Festival

If Key West had an official fruit, this would be its holiday.

The annual Key Lime Festival celebrates everything that makes the island wonderfully quirky.

Expect:

  • Pie tastings
  • Cocktail competitions
  • Key Lime Pie Hop
  • Key Lime Bike Tours
  • Cooking demonstrations
  • Trivia nights
  • Key lime inspired dinners
  • The famous Pie Eating Championship
  • Live entertainment

This has quickly become one of the island's signature summer festivals and many events sell out well in advance.

🧜‍♀️ July 2 through 5

Key West Mermaid Festival

One of Key West's newest traditions is quickly becoming one of its most colorful.

The Key West Mermaid Festival celebrates everything magical about island life with four days of ocean inspired fun, whimsical costumes, live entertainment, conservation programs, and family friendly activities.

You'll find mermaids and mermen swimming all over Key West during the holiday weekend, making it one of the most unique festivals you'll experience anywhere in Florida.

Highlights typically include:

  • Mermaid meet and greets
  • Beach games and family activities
  • Mermaid inspired pool parties
  • Ocean conservation programs
  • Costume contests
  • Live music and entertainment
  • Photo opportunities with professional mermaids
  • Educational exhibits at the Florida Keys Eco Discovery Center

One of the things I appreciate most about this festival is that it is not just about costumes. It also shines a spotlight on marine conservation and encourages visitors to learn more about protecting the incredible waters that surround Key West.

If you're visiting with kids, photographers, or anyone who enjoys a little island magic, this is definitely worth adding to your itinerary.

Dates: July 2 through 5, 2026

If you're planning to boat that week:

  • Reserve restaurants early
  • Be patient at marinas
  • Watch for increased boat traffic

If you're not diving, it's still one of the best weeks to enjoy fresh lobster throughout Key West.
