A Truman Annex Summer: What's Actually on Inside the Gates and Just Past Them

July 17, 2026

The quietest thing about summer in Truman Annex is the sidewalk in front of your own house. Walk two blocks in any direction and that changes fast. The Little White House lawn hosts a fruit festival. Truman Waterfront Park fills with food trucks by mid-afternoon. Mallory Square, four blocks from most Annex front doors, runs a two-week solstice celebration. The gates are not a boundary this season. They are the calmest point in a very active radius.

If you already live here, you know most of Key West's July and August calendar is walking distance. What follows is the specific version of that: dates, names, and where to stand.

The ten-minute triangle

Draw a triangle between the Harry S. Truman Little White House at 111 Front Street, Truman Waterfront Park at the southern end of the harbor, and Mallory Square at the northwest tip of the island. Every corner sits inside or immediately adjacent to Truman Annex. Residents of the Annex are essentially the only people on the island who can attend all of it on foot without moving a car.

That geography is the whole argument for staying in town through the shoulder season. The events that draw day-trippers and hotel guests are the ones you can walk to in flip-flops from a kitchen inside the gates.

The Little White House lawn is a venue, not just a museum

The Harry S. Truman Little White House is one of Key West's most recognizable historic landmarks, but it is far more than a museum. Throughout the year, the beautifully maintained grounds become a venue for concerts, cultural events, holiday celebrations, educational programs, and community festivals.

Its shaded lawn provides one of the most unique gathering spaces on the island, allowing residents to experience history while enjoying events that bring neighbors and visitors together.

Having this venue just steps from home is one of the many lifestyle benefits that makes Truman Annex so unique.

Truman Waterfront Park on Thursday afternoons

Truman Waterfront Park has become one of Key West's most active gathering places for both residents and visitors. Every Thursday from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, the Truman Waterfront Farmers Market brings together local growers, food vendors, artists, makers, and small businesses in a relaxed waterfront setting. It's a favorite weekly tradition where you can browse fresh produce, artisan foods, handmade goods, and enjoy lunch while overlooking Key West Harbor. The market also hosts seasonal themed events throughout the year, making every visit a little different.

Beyond the weekly market, Truman Waterfront Park regularly hosts concerts at the Coffee Butler Amphitheater, holiday celebrations, community festivals, military ceremonies, fitness events, and citywide gatherings. The expansive lawn, playground, splash pad, waterfront promenade, and open green space make it one of the most versatile public spaces in Key West. For residents of Truman Annex, being able to walk to these events in just a few minutes is one of the neighborhood's most overlooked advantages.

Sunsets, Art, and Island Culture

Walk a few more minutes and you'll arrive at Mallory Square, home of the world famous Sunset Celebration. Every evening, locals and visitors gather to watch street performers, browse local artists, enjoy waterfront dining, and experience one of the most iconic sunsets in Florida.

Nearby, White Street's monthly Walk on White showcases local galleries and artists, while The Studios of Key West offers rotating exhibitions, performances, and cultural programming throughout the year.

For Truman Annex residents, these experiences are not vacation activities. They become part of everyday island living.

Who You Work With Matters

Buying in Truman Annex is about much more than purchasing a home inside a gated community. It is about understanding the lifestyle that comes with the neighborhood. Walkability, waterfront access, cultural events, marina access, parks, and historic surroundings all contribute to the value of living here.

Every street inside Truman Annex offers a slightly different experience, and understanding those differences can make a significant impact when buying or selling.

Whether you're looking for a full time residence, a second home, or an investment in one of Key West's most desirable neighborhoods, working with a local team that understands Truman Annex beyond the property lines can make all the difference.
