When the World's Fastest Boats Meet the Key West Lifestyle
There are certain weeks in Key West when the entire island seems to come alive, and the annual Powerboat World Championship is certainly one of them!
From November 1 through 8, 2026, the 45th Annual Race World Offshore Key West World Championship, presented by XINSURANCE, brings world class racing teams, incredible boats, and thousands of enthusiastic spectators to our island.
For visitors, it is an opportunity to experience the excitement of offshore powerboat racing in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable. For those of us fortunate enough to call Key West home, it is another reminder of what makes this community so special.
At The Spottswood Team, we believe understanding Key West real estate means understanding the lifestyle that makes people want to live here. Our island's traditions, waterfront culture, historic neighborhoods, local businesses, and extraordinary events all contribute to what makes Key West unlike anywhere else.
And this year, one of our own, Ted Stewart, better known as Key West Ted, is taking that involvement to another level!
How the Key West Powerboat World Championship Works
If you have never experienced offshore powerboat racing, imagine some of the world's most powerful boats competing at incredible speeds while navigating wind, waves, tight turns, and changing ocean conditions.
Unlike traditional racing on a closed track, offshore racing introduces an entirely different set of challenges. Boats compete in different classes based on their hull designs, engine configurations, performance capabilities, and competition rules.
Some of the classes spectators may see include Class 1, Super Cat, Super Stock, Super Vee, and various bracket racing categories.
The championship features 3 major race days:
Wednesday, November 4: Truman Waterfront Cup
Friday, November 6: Southernmost Continental Championship
Sunday, November 8: Conch Republic Championship Finale
Performance throughout the championship matters, making reliability, teamwork, and racing strategy just as important as speed.
For the complete schedule, visit the official Race World Offshore website.
Where to Watch the 2026 Key West Powerboat Races
One of the most exciting aspects of racing in Key West is the variety of ways spectators can experience the action.
Truman Waterfront and the Outer Mole
This is the heart of Race Week. Spectators can experience the excitement near the Race Village, see impressive boats and racing teams, and enjoy dedicated viewing areas. General admission and VIP options are available.
Mallory Square and Sunset Pier
These waterfront locations offer wonderful views of Key West Harbor and portions of the racing action. Combine the excitement of Race Week with waterfront dining, cocktails, and one of Key West's most famous sunset destinations.
Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park
For those who appreciate natural beauty along with racing excitement, Fort Zachary Taylor offers a beautiful waterfront setting with opportunities to see portions of the offshore action.
On the Water
For a completely different perspective, spectator excursions offered by companies such as Fury Water Adventures allow guests to experience the races from designated areas outside the course.

Key West Ted and Boat #443: A Local Connection to World Championship Racing
One of the things that makes The Spottswood Team special is our involvement in the community beyond real estate.
This year, our own Ted Stewart, known throughout the island as Key West Ted, is celebrating his 2nd consecutive year sponsoring Boat #443 with Mike Flammia and Framed Offshore Racing.
Mike is also the owner of Stone Soup Gallery & Frame Shop in Key West, making this another wonderful example of local businesses coming together around a major island event.
Joining the racing team as a major sponsor this year is Smokin' Tuna Saloon, one of Key West's popular live music and entertainment destinations, which recently reopened. Other sponsors include The Roost and Bliss Jewelry.
Ted will also be participating in the opening boat parade on Sunday, November 1, at 4 PM along Duval Street.
Keep your eyes open for Boat #443! If you capture a photo during the parade, in the pits, or on the water, tag @KeyWestTed on social media. He would love to see and share your photos throughout the week.
It is this kind of community involvement that reminds us why we love Key West. We are not simply helping people buy and sell homes here. We are part of the island and the experiences that make it so memorable.
What to Do Between Races in Key West
While the powerboats are the stars of the week, the celebrations throughout town are equally memorable.
Race Week brings a variety of welcome parties, live music, waterfront gatherings, and opportunities to meet racing teams and fellow enthusiasts.
Some highlights include the opening boat parade on November 1, the Smokin' Tuna racers welcome celebration, and the Race World Offshore Duval Street Party on Friday, November 6.
Beyond the organized festivities, we always encourage visitors to explore the Historic Seaport, discover the restaurants and galleries throughout Old Town, experience the nightly Mallory Square Sunset Celebration, and spend some time getting to know the neighborhoods that give Key West its character.
You can find the latest celebrations on the official 2026 Race Week party schedule.
